Schlotterback Collection of 20th Century Quilts From the LaConner Quilt & Textile Museum

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT SENT OUT MARCH 3, 2014

Thanks to Joy Neal, the arrangements are set for our next meeting on Sunday, March 23rd, in LaConner.

We will meet at 10:00 AM in the Two Forks Room at the La Conner Country Inn, at the corner of Morris and 2nd in La Conner (full address is 107 S Second Street).  The meeting room is on the ground floor off the lobby.

Kathleen Kok, Curator and Collections Manager for the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum, will present the Schlotterback collection of 20th century quilts from the museum.  A member of the Schlotterback family may join us to talk about the quilt maker.   The collection includes quilts from the first half of the 20th century, a nice sequel to the 19th century quilts we saw at the January meeting in Tacoma.  Bring a 20th century quilt or another quilt you want to share for Show and Tell.

La Conner has many options for lunch but you might want to bring a sack lunch or snack so we can be flexible with our time.  Although we have the meeting room until 2:00 we may do Show & Tell immediately following Kathleen's presentation to allow people time to visit the Quilt & Textile Museum.  Sunday is the last day for the current exhibits which include crazy quilts and surface design for textiles created by quilt artist Sue Spargo and the Whidbey Island Surface Design Association.  The museum is open until 5:00 pm.  Admission for groups of 8 or more is $5 instead of $7.  The Inn where we will meet is just down the hill from the museum.

If you want to spend the night the rate at the Country Inn is $129 for a queen room.  If you book a room mention the "La Conner Library meeting" to get the reduced rate (normal rate is $149).  The Inn's website is www.laconnerlodging.com/country-inn/.  The Inn has two floors and no elevator.

The Museum's website is www.laconnerquilts.com
